Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

MEDICARE:

What does Medicare cover? Medicare will pay for a hearing test when it is ordered by a doctor or non-physician practitioner such as a NP, or PA. A referral is required. Medicare does not cover hearing tests for the sole purpose of hearing aid evaluation and fitting. Medicare DOES NOT cover hearing aids. Some Medicare Advantage Plans such as Excellus BC/BS, AARP,  Humana and Aetna offer varying amounts of hearing aid coverage, or reduced pricing on hearing aids. Contact your plan to check for coverage.

INSURANCE:

We offer hearing screenings at no charge.  As a small business we keep our overhead down by not billing insurance for hearing aids. This allows us to price our hearing aids lower. It is up to you to contact your insurance company to inquire about hearing aid coverage. If you do have coverage you will want to ask if you can purchase hearing aids from any provider and be reimbursed, or do you need to go to a provider "in network"? Your insurance company should have a list of "in network" providers. Also, ask if your benefit amount is reduced if you use an "out of network" provider. Even if your benefit is reduced you may find that your total cost for devices is still lower through us.

EMPIRE PLAN:

If you are a NYS employee or retiree with Empire Plan you typically have coverage.  Empire Plan reimburses the enrollee, not the provider.  So, you pay up front for the hearing aids and we complete the necessary paperwork to submit for reimbursement on your behalf.

THIRD PARTY INSURANCE:  Some insurance companies, including those with Advantage Plans, work with a "third party provider" which is a company that administers the hearing aid benefit for them. We are a provider for some of the largest third party companies including Tru Hearing and United Health Hearing Care/EPIC.

HEARING AID PURCHASE:

We require that hearing aids are paid for in full at the hearing aid fitting. If you have a hearing aid benefit, you can submit the receipt from the purchase to your insurance company for reimbursement.

MOBILE VISITS:

We do offer mobile visits within approximately a 12 mile radius of Liverpool, NY. There is a mobile visit fee of $45.00 to $60.00, depending on the distance.
